Streaming video is the most expensive video playing procedure. Essentially the video plays nearly immediately and you don't have to download the video to your machine to see it. To make a long story short, your maching is not processing most of the information. Where the video is hosted is doing the processing for you and streaming it out to your computer.

The video content is played as it is loaded to your machine. Your computer needs to have the video content before it will play.

Embedded is similar to Progressive except that normally you need the ENTIRE video before it will play. This is generally the worst method for playing Flash videos.
